Visit Tel Aviv
Stretched along the beautiful beach strip of the Mediterranean, Tel-Aviv is Israel's largest city and biggest commercial center. It is a busy metropolis, which inspires its visitors with a unique energetic atmosphere of excitement and fun.
In July, 2003, UNESCO proclaimed "The White City", Tel Aviv-Jaffa, as a World Cultural Heritage site. By this proclamation, the world recognized the special architectural qualities of the buildings, streets, squares and avenues of Tel Aviv.
Tel Aviv, the first Hebrew city in modern times, was founded in 1909 and was built on the sand dunes north of the ancient port city of Jaffa. It's style was innovative, tailored to the needs of it's residents, to their life styles and the climatic conditions of the region. "The White City", the world's largest grouping of buildings in the Bauhaus style, was planned by the famous Scot, Sir Patrick Geddes.

Nachalat Benyamin - Art & Craft Fair
If you visit this street on any day other than Tuesday or Friday and return on either of these two days you’ll be hard pressed to recognize it as the same place. Tel Aviv’s Nachalat Benjamin Street comes alive with an Art & Craft Fair that features the works of roughly 220 artists, twice a week. Called Nachalat Benyamin in Hebrew, it is adjacent to shuk Ha’Carmel. In Tel Aviv’s early days this was the longest street in the city. It is named after Benyamin Ze’ev Herzl, who is considered the father of Political Zionism.

Water sports are extremely popular and well developed in the region of Tel Aviv: sailing, wind and kite surfing, wave riding and kayaking are all possible. Tel-Aviv is quite flat and therefore well suited to cycling. One recommended bike route is along the beach road starting at Metzizim beach and heading south to Gordon, then along the beach promenade to Jaffa.
There is a large complex of sporting facilities located at Park Hayarkon. It offers basketball, skating, rollerblading and soccer courts, as well as jogging and bicycle lanes. It can get very crowded at the weekend. There is also a climbing wall on the site. |
| Tel Aviv Weather & Climate
The climate of Tel Aviv is subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in summer is 77°F (25°C) and in winter, 57°F (14°C). Humidity tends to be high all year round and November to April is the wet season. July and August are the busiest months in Tel Aviv, and it is perhaps best to travel to Tel Aviv off-season.
Winter begins end of November and continue through April. It tends to be mild affairs that don’t typically bring heavy snowfall. You might have an occasional rainstorm, but even these are fairly infrequent. Even when there is a shower, the sun usually comes out quickly, drying everything in a matter of minutes. In fact, you could even make a trip to the beach during this season - there are plenty of people here who swim all year round.
Summer begins in April and continues until November. The highest temperatures are recorded in July and August. Although this is peak tourist season in Tel Aviv, you may want to avoid this time. Crowds are huge, and prices for everything (accommodations, restaurants, etc) shoot up. |
