Visit Auckland  Detailed interactive location map

Located on the fringes of upper North Island, Auckland is a city that has it all: pristine harbors, panoramic landscapes and a trendy inner city. It comes as no surprise then that more kiwis live in Auckland than any other city in New Zealand. In fact, the Maoris named Auckland ‘Tamaki Makau Rau’, which means the city of a hundred lovers.
Since its opening ten years ago, Sky Tower at the Sky City complex has become one of country’s top attractions. As the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere, Sky Tower stands at 328 meters high and offers a stunning 80 kilometer radius view over the city. Daredevils can also choose bungee jump from the Sky Tower for a more thrilling way to enjoy the city.
A trip to Auckland would be incomplete without taking a yacht ride out into the harbor. Auckland was nicknamed the ‘City of Sails’ after it was discovered that it owned more boats and yachts than any other country in the world (on a per capita basis). Visitors can also embark on a Dolphin and Whale Safari in the Hauraki Gulf on one of the boats that regularly service the islands. Meanwhile, Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World will offer a closer look at Auckland’s majestic underwater population.
Visitors can also find an extensive network of regional parks covering some 37,000 hectares, archaeological sites, historic homesteads, marine reserves and botanic gardens less than an hour’s drive from the central business district.
Auckland is also a city of culture. Artworks are displayed at a number of galleries around the city including Auckland Art Gallery and the modern New Gallery. The Harbor side Art Trail around Birkenhead and Northcote also gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy artworks in the artist’s own studio. Visitors can also catch a live show or concert at the Aotea Centre, Bruce Mason Theatre and Sky City Theatre.
For fresh seafood, fine dining or a great night out, the Viaduct is the place to go. Lively cafes and bars can be found all along this harbor side walk, which also offers captivating views over the marina.
