Kota Kinabalu or “KK” as it’s affectionately known to the locals, is the
capital city of
Sabah, Malaysian Borneo and the city you will fly into when
arriving from Australia, New Zealand or from Asia. Kota Kinabalu is a
pleasant Borneo surprise, set between lush tropical hills and the South
China Sea. As well as the state capital, KK is a resort city of exciting
contrasts – vibrant, serene and hassle-free, with modern infrastructure and
many attractions.
Tunku Abdul Rahman Park is 20 minutes by fast boat from downtown and an
ideal place to stay overnight or alternatively visit as a day trip from your
hotel for water sports, marine life and a great island lunch on white sandy
beaches looking back to downtown KK.

Eating and Drinking Kota Kinabalu
You'll
find good hawker stalls on the upper floor of the General Market, Jalan Tun
Fuad Stephens, and at the night market, behind the Filipino Market, Jalan
Tun Fuad Stephens. For nighttime drinking , check out Crash, below New Sabah
Inn, Jalan Pantai, a lively enough place which has a midweek bikini parade,
and Rocky Fun Pub & Café, Lot 52, Jalan Gaya (until 2am), a good-time bar
favoured by expats and Yaaha Cowboy Lounge, Block C, Asia City Complex,
which, despite the hick name, is a superb bar with a food court alongside.
Pick of the bunch, however, must be the no-frills Chinese and Filipino
drinking hole, Fun Sen, a few doors down from the Diamond Inn. Guinness
Stout is the staple here for a friendly, boozy, let-it-all-hang-out
clientele.
Sports & Activities Kota Kinabalu
For golf enthusiasts, there is no shortage of world-class courses to take in
a round on the greens. The locations of Sabah's golf courses offer
spectacular ocean and mountain views, which are absolutely unbeatable.
